Your Impact: Giving Children with Autism the Chance to Thrive
Since changes to NDIS funding in 2024, children diagnosed with level 3 autism have lost access to critical early intervention services. For many families, this has meant the difference between getting the right help—and losing it altogether.
At AEIOU, we’re seeing the devastating impact firsthand. Families who finally found a place where their child could learn, grow, and be understood are now facing impossible choices. Some are reducing their child’s attendance. Others have had to withdraw completely because their NDIS funding no longer covers the cost of care.
“When I worked in mainstream education, I’d have to say to parents, ‘I’m really sorry, but we can’t meet the needs of your child.’ But here at AEIOU, if a child is flipping the furniture over or having a massive meltdown, we don’t call the family to come pick them up,” says Trudy Brook, Centre Manager. “We have therapists here. We have staff who’ve been trained to teach the child how to regulate.”
A third of AEIOU families are already facing funding gaps between $3,000 and $30,000. And even for those not yet affected, there’s no guarantee their next NDIS plan will provide the same level of support.
Having a child diagnosed with level 3 autism is already emotionally and physically exhausting for parents. Now, the uncertainty about whether they can continue their child’s therapy adds another layer of fear and pressure.
This Christmas give a family with an autistic child hope.
Your generosity will ensure children continue to access the therapy, education, and the care they need—when they need it most. You’re helping families stay strong through uncertainty, and giving children with autism the best possible start in life.
Because early intervention changes everything and every child deserves care.
